Section I Introduction: Foundations of Improvement Research in Education
-
Abstract/Description
-
This introductory section focuses on the foundational ideas of improvement research
in education. The ideas are grouped into several broad themes that represent distinct
domains of scholarship upon which improvement researchers draw—work, learning,
schooling, equity, democracy, and community. These ideas have formed the foundations
of the organization and focus of improvement research efforts in education. Each
chapter additionally presents how elaboration of its foundational concepts might shape
new directions for the field. Such ideas are offered as seeds for generating future lines
of inquiry and models for educational change that point in the direction of educational
equity and justice.
